At CHUK in Rwanda, Right to Sight trained Valerie, who is a Cataract Surgeon in the new technique of Small Incision Cataract Surgery or SICS. A team from Right to Sight was privileged to be with Valerie while she was doing the rounds of the ward after the previous days surgery. One woman in particular stood out, and indeed stood up the moment Valerie entered the room. Her excitement and desire to express her appreciation to Valarie were palpable and from outside perspective they looked like two old friends meeting after a long absence. The satisfaction of the patient at having her sight restored was obvious and the satisfaction of Valerie at being able to help this women was expressed when she said “The new method of SICS is so marvelous, to the extent that I cannot even recall how the old method is done. There is quick recovery and the visual outcome is so good."
