Professor Tanner, MD, FRCSI, FRCSEd, FFSEM, is a General Surgeon.  He qualified as an undergraduate from the University of Dublin, Trinity College, and was subsequently awarded a Doctorate from the same university.  He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.  He is a Founding Fellow of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine.  He was a Consultant General Surgeon to the Meath and the Adelaide Hospitals and was Associate Professor of Surgery in Trinity College, Dublin.

Since becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Professor Tanner has contributed to all the surgical postgraduate initiatives run by the College.  This has culminated in his appointment to his present post as Director of Surgical Affairs.  It is his intention to ensure that the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland remains to the forefront of surgical training, both in this country and in its many areas of influence abroad.
