Kate Coleman founded Right to Sight in January 2006, after many years of looking for ways to contribute to the elimination of preventable blindness. Kate was gripped by the solvability of the blindness crisis if the dire shortage of opthalmologists on the Continent could be addressed.

 

Dermot Butler
Director

Dermot Butler, who was born in 1941, has over 40 years experience in the financial services industry. Early in 1989 Dermot Butler moved to Dublin and established the Custom House Group of Companies, a global fund administration company. 

 

Tom Arnold
Director

Tom Arnold is the CEO of Concern Worldwide. Previously, Mr Arnold worked in the Department of Agriculture and Food for 13 years, as Chief Economist and as Assistant Secretary General.

  

Professor W. Arthur Tanner
Trustee

Professor Tanner, MD, FRCSI, FRCSEd, FFSEM, is a General Surgeon. He qualified as an undergraduate from the University of Dublin, Trinity College, and was subsequently awarded a Doctorate from the same university. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He is a Founding Fellow of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine. He was a Consultant General Surgeon to the Meath and the Adelaide Hospitals and was Associate Professor of Surgery in Trinity College, Dublin.

 

Professor Ruairi Brugha

Professor Brugha MD, FFPHMI, MSc, DCH, Dip Obs, Dip Humanities is Head of the Dept of Epidemiology and Public Health Medicine, at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Ireland.

 

Claire Cronin
Trustee  

Claire Cronin founded Cronin Associates Executive Search in 2002 after 20 years experience in Marketing and Management Consultancy.Claire is currently Vice President on the Harvard Business School Alumni Board of Directors where she earned her MBA and a member of the Harvard Business School European Leadership Council.

 

Dr. John Sandford Smith OBE
Trustee

Dr John Sandford-Smith of Knighton received an OBE for services to blind people in developing countries. He is a widely respected expert on eye diseases and has been involved in teaching, training and voluntary work.

 

Nollaig Fahy
Trustee

Nollaig Fahy was invited in 2006 to become a Trustee of Right To Sight. Nollaig is currently Founder and Director of Angels-Beacons of Hope – A not for profit global arts organization. He is also a Director of the Cottage Home Child & Family Services, Dublin 2006 – present. In 2010 he was appointed Director of Nextgen Foundation Ireland – A non profit organization.

 

Dr. Daragh Fahey
Trustee

Medical Doctor and Public Health Consultant with 15 years experience within the health industry -6 years clinical practice (3 within NHS) and 6 years NHS public health practice. As a director of a medical charity called IASIS Daragh has been deeply involved in tackling blindness in Africa, particularly Ethiopia since 2002. Formerly chief medical officer for Right To Sight
